On the occasion of February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Research Center in Structured Light and Matter (LUMES) at the University of Salamanca organized a series of inspiring activities to highlight female talent in science, promote vocations among young girls, and strengthen gender equality in research.
“Women in Science” Exhibition
From February 9 to 13, LUMES presented the “Women in Science” exhibition at the Trilingual Building of the Faculty of Sciences. This visual journey highlighted the biographies of pioneering female scientists from different eras and disciplines, from Marie Curie to contemporary researchers. Designed to inspire girls, young people, and the entire university community.
Curious Scientists: Storytelling with UnPuntoCurioso
In a magical storytelling session led by UnPuntoCurioso, open to boys and girls from 3 years old, 35 young participants, along with their moms and dads, enjoyed stories that wove together science and adventure. The narratives highlighted the role of women scientists, fostering curiosity and interest in research from an early age. An activity that left smiles and endless curiosity.
“Women with their own light” campaing
LUMES launched the “Women with Their Own Light” campaign, a series of outreach interviews published on social media and the center’s website. Through them, voice was given to 8 female researchers from the University of Salamanca, revealing their career paths, challenges overcome, and contributions in their various fields of research. These pieces not only celebrate their scientific excellence but also invite the community to learn firsthand about the impact of their work. Discover the interviews.
